Principal's Message
Aloha Kahuku Elementary School ‘Ohana,
I am Ikaika Plunkett, the Po’okumu (principal) for KES, and I am thrilled to be a part of the Kahuku Elementary School team!
As a school leader, I am committed to engaging all students in purposeful, standards-based learning experiences using data. My approach to education involves five key components:
Student Engagement: KES will prioritize creating an environment where all students are curious, interested, and inspired. Effective instructional strategies play a crucial role in fostering a passion for learning.
Purposeful: The instruction at KES will always be purposeful, with clear learning intentions and success criteria linked to priority standards. All learning activities will address skill and/or content necessary to be successful in the classroom, community, and world.
Standards-based: The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is the reference point for significantly impacting knowledge, skills, and social-emotional well-being. Learning Intentions will be shared and success criteria will be used to measure growth and achievement.
Learning Experiences: KES will emphasize using multiple teaching and learning methodologies, ensuring a diverse range of experiences that address to various learning outcomes.
Data: KES will collect and use data to monitor student growth and achievement. It will be used to determine if instruction, interventions, and resources are effective. We use data to identify where students are and where they need to be to be proficient in learning, behavior, and social emotional relationships.
Mahalo Piha!
